Life imitates art all the time. It’s never really a big deal. Except when life suddenly decides to indulge in its apparent love of horror. That’s when some of our favorite movies get a little too close for comfort. Let’s take a quick tour of some real life crimes that bear a striking (yet coincidental) resemblance to some extreme moments in horror cinema.
Miami Zombie – Dead Alive

Zombies and their bath salt binges are all the rage today. So it shouldn’t be any surprise that we begin the list with the granddaddy of them all, the Miami Zombie. Sure, we can cite all sorts of relevant zombie movies here, and simply call it a day. But Dead Alive has such a morbid fascination with facial mutilation, it would certainly make the Miami Zombie blush.
I think we get the picture now.
Chicago Nipple Biter – Castle Freak

Of all the extraneous body parts a violent lunatic can assault, you’d think the nipple would be pretty low on the list. Then again, once a psycho gets that crazy motor going, nothing is sacred. That’s apparently what happened when one man unwittingly decided to play Castle Freak with an off duty police officer.
Jeffrey Dahmer, Lobotomist - Re-Animator

Some fates are worse than death. You can lose a nipple and you’d eventually just shrug it off (after an extremely painful recovery period, naturally). It’s when you start losing your sense of identity that we experience that whole “worse than death” issue. This happens to be the fate of poor, old dean Halsey from Reanimator, thanks to Dr. Hill and his frontal lobotomies. As if taking a page from the fictional fiend, Jeffrey Dahmer performed lobotomies on several of his victims in order to keep them around for his personal amusement.
Dallas Chainsaw Murderer – The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The flip side of our theme here is art imitating life, which is a far more commonplace practice. Especially when considering the many movies Ed Gein inspired. One of those movies just happens to be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now, even though Mr. Gein was never known as a chainsaw wielding maniac like Leatherface, one man from Dallas didn’t quite get the memo and mistakenly saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a chainsaw instructional video.
